Children rider Lucie Planchet, junior and Under 25 rider Mathilde Juglaret, and young rider Mado Pinto became the winners of the 2021 French Youth Riders Championships held in Le Mans, France, on 22 - 24 October 2021.

Six combinations competed in the Children's division for 12 to 14 year old riders. French European championship team rider Lucie Planchet and her 8-year old Oldenburg bred Quincy Jones du Soleil (by Quaterback x Sandro Hit) became the champions after producing three winning rounds.  The 14-year old Lucie rode Pierre Volla and Marianne Eichenberger's Quincy Jones to 74,476% in the preliminary test, 74,500% in the team test, and 72,886% in the Kur to Music. The 12-year old team mate Laure Peretti and Isabelle Pinto's 16-year old Hanoverian Remake de Pic (by Rubin Royal x Weltmeyer) earned silver with 69,964%,  71,766%,  and 68,372%. The bronze was collected by 14-year old Sofia Brochet aboard Jean Martinez' 11-year old Lusitano Atila (by Alamo x Unico SQT). This pair posted 73,101%, 66,375%, and 70,116%.

The junior riders' division brought the largest group of riders afoot with nine competing. Mathilde Juglaret, the daughter of French Grand Prix team rider Anne Sophie Serre, is 17 years old and has been competing internationally in the junior class, young riders' division and Under 25 category as she has a string of horses to ride at home. With the 9-year old Lusitano Caporal de Massa (by Rieto x Xaqiero) she finished 10th in the Kur to Music finals at the 2021 European Championships and last weekend she added the French Junior Champion's title to her tally. She was undefeated with 73,702% in the team test, 72,763% in the individual, and 75,175% in the freestyle. Charlotte Coquerelle, who made her international show debut in 2021, rode the 14-year old KWPN gelding Chicco (by Tuschinski x Uddel) to silver. They posted 67,621%, 67,474%, and 71,600%. The bronze was for French team rider Maud Hebras on the 10-year old Oldenburg mare Senorita Rosa (by Sandro Hit x Rohdiamant). They were in the running for a second place after their 68,027% and 67,711% in the team and individual test, but were sixth in the freestyle with 69,950%. Their total after three rounds put them third overall.

Mado Pinto at the 2021 European YR Championships
Just five pairs contested the Young Riders' division, which was won by Mado Pinto aboard Haras de la Gesse's 10-year old home bred Hanoverian Hot Bit de la Gesse (by Hofrat x Rubin Royal). After a 9th place in the Kur finals at the 2021 European Championships, this duo landed the French Young Riders' Champion's title in Le Mans. They were unbeatable and the only pair to score three times over seventy percent. They posted 72,559% in the team test, 72,676% in the individual, and 74,775% in the Kur to Music. The 19-year old Pinto made the decision in September to not pursue an academic career and go to college, but instead chose riding as her future profession.  Alexandre Cheret and his 13-year old KWPN gelding Doruto (by Quattro B x Zortin) scored the silver. Cheret has been competing no less than three horses internationally this year, but with Doruto he focused on the young riders' tests. In Le Mans he produced 68,706%, 68,853%, and 70,825% for silver. Arthur Barthel and the 10-year old Lusitano bred Bambino de Massa (by Rieto x Galopin de la Font) got bronze with only a fraction of a point less than Cheret. Barthel stayed on Cheret's heels with his 68,853% in the team test, 70,088% in the individual, and 69,175% in the Kur.

Mathilde Juglaret on Caporal de Massa in Le Mans
The Under 25 division had six riders at the starting line to contest two rounds, the Intermediaire II and Short Grand Prix. Junior rider Mathilde Juglaret won the gold and title aboard her step dad Arnaud Serre's former French Grand Prix team horse Ultrableu de Massa, a 13-year old Portuguese sport horse bred by Rubin Royal x Almonda MAC. The pair posted 69.971% in the Intermediaire II and 68.692% in the Short Grand Prix. Juglaret will continue to compete in the junior division next year as well as combine it with U25 sport. Alix Bravard and the 10-year old NRPS registered Santiago (by Spielberg x Houston) got silver with 67,765% and 69,487%. The bronze went to young rider Alexandre Cheret on his mother, Veronique Pruede Seguret's 15-year old KWPN mare Bamona (by United x Inspekteur). They improved their score during show, going from 65,883% to 66,872% to end up third overall.

"I didn't expect to do these performances (at the Nationals) because I no experience at all in U25," Juglaret commented after the weekend. "In addition I had never done the individual test (Short Grand Prix), so I'm delighted with Ultrableu's performance, which was exemplary. I couldn't have asked for more. For the juniors my scores were lower than usual. We had a national jury and not an international one like last year, which explains that since nationals are often more shy than international judges in France," she laughed. "I'm still very happy."
