Hubertus Schmidt and Escolar have dropped out of the German Olympic race and will not be competing in the second and final German Olympic team selection trial in Kronberg at the end of the month.

Gut Neuenhof's 12-year old Westfalian licensed stallion Escolar (by Estobar x Furst Piccolo) has injured himself.

After Ingrid Klimke's Franziskus, Escolar is the second horse to withdraw from German Olympic team contention due to an injury.

At the first Olympic trial at the 2021 German Dressage Championships, Schmidt and Escolar finished 11th in the Grand Prix, 9th in the Special and 12th in the Kur. The second German team trial is scheduled for 24 - 27 June.

The 61-year old Hubertus Schmidt was a member of the gold medal winning team at the 2004 Olympics in Athens (Wansuela Suerte) and the reserve rider for the 2016 Rio Olympics (Imperio).
