A change of guard has taken place at the Oldenburg Breed Society (GOV) in Vechta, Germany. After 26 years, Wilhelm Weerda has resigned as president of the society and Dr. Wolfgang Schulze-Schleppinghoff has been elected his successor.

Schulze-Schleppinghoff was voted new president unanimously and received standing ovations at the election.

Weerda has been decorated with the Honorary Golden Pin for his lifetime achievements within the Oldenburg society.

Weerda began his term as president in 1995 after having been on the board for four years. Under his leadership the breed society built its new headquarters in Vechta, integrated the Oldenburg Elite Mare Show with the Oldenburg Young Horse Championships in Rastede, and founded the International Association of Future Horse Breeding.

Weerda was one of the founding fathers of the show jumping leg of the Oldenburg-International (OS) and streamlined the OS and OL breed society into one functional whole.
