Two "selection moments" held on 20 and 27 April 2021 at the KWPN headquarters in Ermelo, The Netherlands, have led to a long-list of 87 horses eligible to participate the first observation trial for Dutch team selection for the 2021 World Young Horse Championships in Verden.
Based on the performances of the horses at these two selection "moments," the three selectors picked a long list of horses eligible to move to the observation trial.
Initially it was said that 30 horses per age group would be selected, but those ratios were not kept. Forty-two 5-year olds, twenty-nine 6-year olds, and sixteen 7-year olds have been long-listed.
Three Observation Trainings
These long-listed horses are eligible to participate in the first observation training on 19 - 20 May 2021. All horses that were team selected for the 2020 World Championships can automatically participate in the first observation training.
The best 20 horses per age group will get re-invited to the second training on 21 - 22 June 2021. At this second trial the best 12 horses per age group will get re-invited for a final training session on 19 - 29 July 2021 after which the actual team will be announced.
On 3 August a final training session for the team horses and first reserves will be held in Ermelo where the test riding will be practised. Two additional training sessions will be held in August in preparation for Verden.
