Dutch professional Veronique Roerink has sold her number one horse in the barn, Flanell, to German Young Rider Semmieke Rothenberger.

Flanell is a 10-year old Dutch warmblood mare by Apache oyt of Adonnee de Jeu (by Don Schufro x Cocktail). She is bred by Roerink and is a half sister to Lyndal Oatley's Grand Prix horse Elvive (by Tuschinski)

The bay mare made her first claim to fame when she finished seventh in the 6-year old division at the 2016 World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Ermelo, The Netherlands.

Veronique Roerink took her to small tour level in 2017 and tried to get selected for the 2017 World Young Horse Championships but did not make it. They made her international debut at the 2018 CDI 1* in Ermelo, followed by the CDI Cappeln the week after, where they won the Prix St Georges. Their last international was the CDI Exloo in October 2018.

The past year Roerink trained Flanell to Grand Prix level and has now sold her as an Under 25 ride to European Young Rider champion Semmieke Rothenberger.

"She wasn't really for sale, but sometimes opportunities come along your way that you have to grasp," Roerink explained about the sale of her top ride. "It's a fantastic place (she's going to) and with a very talented rider."

Semmieke confirmed the arrival of Flanell on her Instagram account. "I’m still trying to find words to describe this incredible chance and the emotions that I’m feeling," she gushed. "She is making me so happy already."

Since making the transition from ponies to horses Semmieke has been campaigning and riding a string of black mares, led by her top equine partners Geisha and Dissertation. Flanell is a bay mare.  "For everybody who was wondering, yes she is a mare but not black. We broke the chain," Semmieke wrote.
