Fifty Ways to Victory, Laura Ashley, Alquazar de Massa Win Seventh Qualifier for 2017 Belgian WCYH Team Selection

The 5-year old Fifty Ways to Victory, the 6-year old Laura Ashley and the 7-year old Alquazar de Massa were the winners of the seventh and final Belgian selection trial for the 2017 World Young Horse Championships in Ermelo, The Netherlands, on 3 - 6 August. 2017. The final selection event was held on Saturday 24 June 2017 in Cheratte, Belgium.

As the cards for Belgian WCYH team selection were already dealt after six trials, the line-up in Cheratte was small.

In the 5-year old division former Belgian pony rider Kayleigh Buelens and the American bred Oldenburg gelding Fifty Ways to Victory (by Foundation x Harvard) aced the class with 81.167 points, ahead of Philippe Joirssen who was second once again on the Belgian warmblood mare Miss Dior van den Bruel (by Special Agent Amour x Florestan). They scored 76.083 points and edged out Nick van Laer on Golddream van de Kempenhoev (by Jazz x Quaterback) on 74.459 points.

Six combinations contested the 6-year old division and Gert Helsen booked his third, consecutive victory on Bthe elgian warmblood mare Laura Ashley (by Bon Bravour x Sandro Hit) with 73.167 points. Flore de Winne and the Hanoverian bred Basali (by Belissimo M x Weltmeyer) were the runners-up with 69.542%, followed by Nick van Laer on Elizabeth Tepper's Quinto (by Quaterback x De Niro) wuth 68.667 points.

Only three riders showed up for the 7-year old division and the trophy was snatched by Françoise Hologne-Joux on Mrs Niclaus' Portuguese Sport Horse bred Alquazar de Massa (by San Amour x Landim) with 72.575%. Ine Vandecappelle and the Belgian warmblood Katusha van 't Wijnfhof (by Breemeersen Crescendo x Flemmingh) were second in the distance with 66.790%, while Jacqueline Tonnaer and Serge Pais' Dutch warmblood Fairytale (by United x Jazz) were third with 63,405%.
