Former Dutch Grand Prix team rider Imke Schellekens-Bartels has given birth to a baby boy on Tuesday 24 May 2016. Mom and baby are doing very well.

The boy has been named Joep Schellekens. He is the first child of 39-year old Imke Bartels and her husband Joep Schellekens. Imke's father and the grandfather of the baby is also called Joep.

"I just think it's the nicest name," said Imke smiling; "We're staying one more night in the hospital, but all is looking fine and tomorrow we can go home."

Imke Schellekens-Bartels has represented The Netherlands at the 2007 and 2009 European Championships, 2006 and 2010 World Equestrian Games, and 2008 Olympic Games. Her international competition career has been on the back burner since 2013 when her top horse at the time, Toots, got injured. She made a brief show come back in December 2015. She sold Toots when she was almost four months pregnant.
