Legendary Westfalian horse breeder Herbert de Baey passed away at age 84 on 16 February 2016. De Baey was without a doubt one of Germany's most successful dressage horse breeders of all times.

De Baey bred no less than three Olympic medal winning horses, including Nicole Uphoff's double individual Olympic champion Rembrandt (by Romadour II), Dr. Reiner Klimke's 1984 Olympic individual gold medal winning Ahlerich (by Angelo xx) and Dutch Olympic team horse Amon (by Angelo xx).

He also bred the licensed breeding stallions Rubinstein I and II (by Rosenkavalier), Royal Angelo I and II (by Rosenkavalier).

De Baey's brood farm began in the 1960s when he acquired Dodona (by Donar) as foundation mare. Brood mares Amone, Adone and Antine (by Angelo xx out of Dodona) brought the farm its ultimate glory.

De Baey passed away after a period of illness in his house in Lemgo, Germany, with his wife by his side.  Herbert's son Jurgen is contuining the brood farm.
