Charlotte Dujardin was announced on the ten-strong shortlist for the BBC’s Sport Personality of the Year award. Dujardin is the reigning Olympic, World and European champion who holds three world records with her equine partner Valegro, owned by Carl Hester and Roly Luard.
Charlotte is up against some tough opposition on the back of Lewis Hamilton’s World Championship win in Formula 1 on Sunday plus golfer Rory McIlroy has been a crowd pleaser this year with two major title wins and his role in the Ryder Cup victory.
The full list includes:
Gareth Bale – football
Charlotte Dujardin – dressage
Carl Froch – boxing
Kelly Gallagher & Charlotte Evans – para alpine skiing
Lewis Hamilton – formula 1
Rory McIlroy – golf
Jo Pavey – athletics
Adam Peaty – swimming
Max Whitlock – gymnastics
Lizzy Yarnold – skeleton
The star-studded awards ceremony takes place at the Hydro in Glasgow on Sunday 14 December and will be screened live on BBC One.
The equestrian world united to support AP McCoy to his victory in 2010 so hopes are high for the same for the first dressage rider to be short-listed. The result on the night is purely down to the public vote. Voting is by phone or online. To vote online is for free, you’ll need to register with the BBC website ahead of time to get a BBC iD – click here.
