2013 British Junior Rider team member Chloe Vell is out of team contention for the 2014 European Junior Riders Championships in Arezzo, Italy, as her horse Kaja di Valentina got injured and will not be fit on time for the final British selection trial.
The 16-year old Vell had to withdraw from competing her 10-year old Hanoverian mare Kaja di Valentina (by K2 x Weltmeyer x Novize) from the last British team selection trial in Wellington as the black mare became unlevel two weeks ago.
At the moment there is no real diagnoses yet for Kaja's lameness. "I don't know how long she will be out yet as we are just doing some further investigations but she won't be ready for Wellington so I am out of contention," Vell told Eurodressage. "We are still unsure of exactly her diagnosis until all the investigations are complete."
Vell competed at the CDI Nieuw en St Joosland and CDI Addington in April and the duo was scheduled to compete at the CDIO Saumur three weeks ago, but had to withdraw because Chloe's father became unwell and had to be rushed to the hospital. He was diagnosed with multiple blood clots in his lungs. In addition, Chloe's mom tore a ligament and fractured some bones in her ankle during a netball match. She is now on crutches with a cast on her leg for 6 weeks.
Although missing out on the European Championships, Vell is more concerned with her family and horse returning to full health. She hopes she can be aiming for the British Summer Regional Championships instead.
