Irish Grand Prix rider Kate Dwyer has lost her top competition horse Reve d'Or to colic. The bay stallion was euthanized early in the morning of 6 March 2014.

Based at Sunset House Stud, Reve d'Or was a 16-year old Dutch warmblood stallion by Flemmingh out of Dilander (by Statuar x Graveur). He was discovered and competed as a youngster by Belgian Grand Prix rider Wim Verwimp.

As a 5-year old Reve d'Or sold to Maureen Dwyer and Maeve Butterly, who initially owned the horse in partnership. Dwyer took over sole ownership of the horse a few years ago.

Kate brought the dark bay stallion to Grand Prix level. The pair celebrated a career highlight by winning the 2012 Irish Grand Prix championships. This year they were aiming for team selection for the 2014 World Equestrian Games

"As well as having an amazing ability for the Grand Prix work, he was a real character in the yard," said Kate. "He always made us laugh. Everyone knew when Reve d'or arrived. He was probably the most beautiful horse I will ever own. We are so privileged to have been a part of his life."
