American Hanoverian Society members elected two new individuals to the AHS Board of Directors. Anne Sparks and Nancy Connolly will begin serving four-year terms on the AHS Board of Directors. Both are enthusiastic, experienced breeders of successful Hanoverian horses in the USA.
Anne Sparks in the owner of USDF Horse of the Year and US Pan American Gold Medal winning team horse, Pik L, as well as AHS approved Elite stallions Leonberg, Noble Champion, and Pikko del Cerro. She is also the breeder and owner of the Pik L-Rohdiamant son, Pikko del Cerro HU, USEF/Markel US Young Dressage Horse National Champion with Lisa Wilcox and is now winning in international Grand Prix dressage. Anne is a third generation horsewoman with extensive experience riding and showing horses. She has a B.S. in Zoology from Washington State University.
Nancy Connolly, owns an executive recruitment firm, and established HorsePower Farm in the Pacific Northwest, breeding successful Hanoverian sport horses for both jumping and dressage. Keenly interested in education, she holds clinics from top clinicians at her farm routinely and serves on the AHS Education Committee. Central to her program are Elite Mares produced out of her breeding program, and SPS Harmonie, an imported black Hohenstein-Argentan mare that was one of only three Hanoverians chosen to compete in the European Mare Show in Brussels. SPS Harmonie has produced many outstanding foals, including Riviera HPF by Royal Prince, 2012 ODS Futurity Champion.
Judy Hedreen, Sylvan Farm and NorthStar Farm, WA and Dr. Steve Carroll, Sullivan Farm, NC elected to retire and not run for reelection to the AHS Board of Directors in 2012. Judy served as judge, spokesperson, director and educator for AHS. Noted Hanoverian horses bred by Judy include Far Star that represented the USEF and AHS in the 2003 World Championships for Young Jumpers in Belgium and Animation, winner at Spruce Meadows and Champion at Indio. Judy was also developed the US Hanoverian Breeder Orientation Course. The course is scheduled for funding again in 2014.
Steve, an equine veterinarian with a special interest in reproduction, was elected to the AHS Board of Directors in 1993 and served on the Finance, Breeding Technology, and Corporate Regulations and Grievances committees, as well as the Editorial Advisory Board. His lovely wife, Bettie, has served in various capacities including Stallion Book Editor. Steve and Bettie also coordinated the 2007 AHS Annual Meeting and Young Horse Training Symposium with USEF Young Horse Dressage Coach Scott Hassler in Florida. All are thanked for their many years of leadership and service to the AHS and for helping establish the Hanoverian breed in the USA!
