Classical dressage trainer Manolo Mendez and equine veterinarian Kerry Ridgway are the keynote speakers at a symposium on optimizing your horse’s straightness, balance and performance held at Circle Oak Equine in Petaluma, California, on 9 - 10 June 2012.

Circle Oak Equine is Northern California’s premier sports horse medicine and rehabilitation clinic where the symposium will be held. It features a two-day in-depth look at equine crookedness (laterality), straightness and balance from both a veterinary and training standpoint with Kerry Ridgway, DVM and Manolo Mendez.

Designed to teach participants about the causes of equine laterality (crookedness and unevenness) and its consequences on equine soundness and performance, the symposium will address how to remedy laterality as well as straighten and rebalance horses from an integrative medicine and training standpoint under saddle and in-hand.

The  symposium consists of a mix of lectures, evaluations and demonstrations meant to be practical and interactive and give horse professionals and amateurs a deeper understanding of crookedness as a key health issue for horses and provide them with knowledge and  tools they can take home and use on their, or their clients horses.

Besides discussing crookedness, straightness and balance, throughout their evaluations, Dr. Ridgway and Manolo will touch on other issues such as saddle fitting, ulcers, psoas and hyoid problems that have been linked to crookedness.

In-hand and dressage specialist Manolo Mendez  will be joined by Dr.Kerry Ridgway, a US based "Integrative Medicine" specialized veterinarian, competitor, author, FEI Judge and instructor who lectures about whole horse health around the world. Dr. Ridgway's whole horse health approach marries conventional medicine and alternative treatment modalities such as acupuncture, chiropractic, hoof care, saddle fit, kinesiology, neuromuscular and myo-fascial therapies, dental health and nutrition to treat laterality (crooked and unevenness), high heel/low heel syndrome, ulcers and other equine problems.
