The German Olympic Equestrian Committee (DOKR) selected fifteen combinations for this year's Piaff Forderpreis U25 show circuit following a training seminar and selection for German Under 25 riders in Warendorf, Germany, on 3 - 5 February 2012.
For the 12th year in a row, the Piaff Forderpreis selection weekend took place with a training seminar and selection class at the DOKR headquarters in Warendorf. Twenty-nine pairs in total were invited to particpate and they were accompanied by their parents and trainers. Eight pairs came from the Rhinelander province, while seven were from Hessia and Bavaria. The North of Germany was barely represented this year in the final selection.
"It's disappointing but we can not always have such an extraordinary pair each year," said German team coach Holger Schmezer, who referred to the Dinklage based 2011 Piaff Forderpreis winner Kristina Sprehe on Desperados. This combination won the Short Grand Prix at the selection event last year with 74.797%.
After a training session with Holger Schmezer, Jonny Hilberath and Jurgen Koschel (the German Under 25 team coach), the riders had to compete in a short Grand Prix which was instrumental in getting qualified for the 2012 Under 25 circuit. The winner this year was Stella Charlott Roth on the Hanoverian mare Diva Royal (by Don Frederico x Warkant). They scored 69.612%
Annabel Frenzen and her massive Holsteiner Cristobal were second with 68.372% followed by triple European Young Riders Champion Sanneke Rothenberger with Deveraux (by De Niro x Rohdiamant) on 68.295%. Bavarian based Victoria Michalke was fourth aboard Queeny (by Quattro B x Andiamo) with 67.209%. 2010 European Young Rider Champion Fabienne Lutkemeier brought Qui Vincit Dynamis (by Quattro B x Calypso) to Warendorf to finish highly as well.
The qualified combinations for the 2012 Piaff Forderpreis show circuit are:
