End of the Year Questions

With the Christmas holidays rapidly approaching, it is time for Eurodressage's most popular "End of the Year Questions" series to return to the website. We have asked the most important dressage figures of 2011, and that can include riders, trainers, judges, journalists and other prominent dressage personalities, to review the year 2011.

This Q&A session gives the interviewees the opportunity to look back on their equestrian year 2011 as well give you an idea of their interests outside the horse world.

Trond Asmyr
Norway
FEI Dressage Director

Most important event in your equestrian life in 2011?

The results from the European Championships in Rotterdam, showing that it is possible for more than two nations to win the top titles. This is promising for the future, global reach of our sport.

Most important happening, evolution or trend in the world in 2011?

It is difficult not to concentrate on the tough economic situation in the world with the difficulties in a number of Euro countries as the clearest sign. As a Norwegian I was of course also shocked that one man killed 77 people in my quiet part of the word. However, this terrible incident brought people closer together, agreeing that we still want an open society, with limited control even if it means that we may experience this sort of crazy acts again. This was for me a very positive experience.

What would you like to see changed in the dressage world in 2012?

this year has shown me that some people criticise and disagree before they have even really tried to understand the background for a situation or a decision. I wish they would use the communication channels we have to discuss the issues..

What do you wish for in 2012?

2012 will be my first Olympics and Paralympics (as FEI Dressage Director-. The venue in Greenwich is stunning and could not give our sport a more perfect setting, both for the participants, the spectators and as a marketing tool for the sport. When I experience all the preparations leading up to the events, it MUST be a success. I am also sure that the sport will be on a level we have not seen before.
