
German dressage director Anton Fischer passed away on Sunday 25 September just four days before his 87th birthday. Fischer was a former chair of the dressage selection committee of the German Olympic Equestrian Committee (DOKR) and long-time chef d'equipe of the German dressage team.
The Wurselen based Fischer was key in the success of international German dressage sport and aided in the development of the CHIO Aachen, where he was manager and show director for years.
Born in Oberursel in 1924, Fischer was an independent salesman by profession. He became a member of the DOKR selection committee in 1973 and chaired it as of 1974. He was member of the sport board of the DOKR until 2001.
Between 1974 and 2000 Fischer was the German chef d'equipe and assisted the team at six Olympic Games, seven World Championships and twelve European Championships. His teams totalled 83 medals of which 16 were Olympic.
From 1968 till 1974 Fischer was the technical dressage director of the CHIO Aachen and from 1975 till 1984 he was managing director of the organizing committee Aachen Laurensberger Rennvereins (ALRV). Between 1981 and 1998 he served on the board of the ALRV.
For his achievements for the German equestrian sport Fischer earned the German Riders' Cross in Gold in 2001 and he became an honorary member of the German Equestrian Federation. He also received the German Federal Cross of Merit in 2002.
