The Dutch Equestrian Federation (KNHS) has established a new team category, the Future Team, to support (former) young riders who want to make the transition to Grand Prix level.

In The Netherlands, the Future Tests for rising young Grand Prix riders have been organized at national shows for several years, following the German model of the Piaff Forderpreis.

The KNHS has now decided to create a Future Team and support its selected riders with professional coaching. Eight combinations have been selected for the Future Team 2010 after a second selection event in Ermelo, The Netherlands, on 14 June. Thirty-seven combinations appeared on the first selection day on 8 April 2010, eleven had to ride in front of 60-year old Dutch team trainer Sjef Jansen and former Dutch O-judge Jan Peeters at the second trial. Eight of them qualified on the team.

The 2010 Future Team includes:

  • Marrigje van Baalen -   Kigali (by Wolfgang)
  • Lorraine van den Brink - Murdock (by Balzflug)
  • Ashley Brons -  Simply the Best (by Kimberley)
  • Yessin Rahmouni - Only Society (by Damocles)
  • Jenny Schreven - Krawall (by Focus)
  • Diederik van Silfhout - Popeye (by Havel)
  • Thamar Zweistra - Hexagon’s Ortello (by Karthago) and Hexagon’s Truppa (by Rubiquil)

Future Team riders will get technical coaching (training of their horses and for test riding) as well as top sport coaching (stable management, how to find sponsors and train their media skills). The selected eight will also compete in the Rabo Future Cup hosted at the 2010 Horse Event.
