In an official press statement, Heike Kemmer announced the withdrawal of her horse Bonaparte from the 2005 European Dressage Championships. Her 12-year old Hanoverian gelding sustained an injury in his Grand Prix test
or right after it, as a bleeding wound on the right fetlock was noticed.
"Bonaparte showed a minimal lameness during the veterinary control on Saturday morning," Kemmer explained. "I'm very sad, but I feel better knowing that I have made a decision, which is in my horse's best interest."
Kemmer and Bonaparte (by Bon Bonaparte) placed sixth individually in the Grand Prix and won the team gold medal.
