Swedish Grand Prix rider Emelie Brolin had to say goodbye to her career starting big tour horse Briman. He was 25 years old.

Briman was a 2001 born Swedish warmblood by Briar out of Madeira (by Martini x Utrillo x Excellens). He was bred by Lennart Mattsson.

As a 3-year old he did the saddle test for Swedish warmblood in Vinslöv and scored 7 for walk, 8 for trot and 9 for canter.

The chestnut with the big blaze became Emelie Brolin's career launching horse. She bought him as a 5-year old and produced him up the levels to compete at Grand Prix.  She competed him in the young horse classes at the 2006 and 2008 CDI Falsterbo and placed 30th in the first round of the 2006 Swedish Young Dressage Horse Championships. In 2010 she took him to Mannheim, Germany, for a national S-level test at this international competition.

They were 13th at the 2013 Swedish Grand Prix Championships, 12th in 2014 and 14th in 2018.

Their international show career took place between 2013 and 2017, competing at 8 CDI's in total in that time frame. They began at the CDI Stadl Paura in Austria in March 2013 and concluded at the CDI Kristiansand in Norway in May 2017. In Kristiansand the horse was not moving as well as usual and he got diagnosed with a crack in the sacro-illiac/pelvic area and needed three months box rest after that.

Brolin herself competed in one more CDI, the 2018 World Young Horse Championships on Bergsjoholms Valbonne, and has not stepped into a CDI ring ever since. She runs riding school Brolotens Dressage Center in Sweden.

Schoolmaster

Nationally Briman ended up competing through 2024 until he was 23 years old.

He carried several students as a schoolmaster in lower level and youth classes. He was a professor for Kristin Elvelind, Marrtina Karlsson, and Maja Post. His last show was in September 2024 with Post.

On 6 June Brolin announced the passing of Briman. "I’m completely heartbroken," said Emelie. "Twenty years together and I’m so thankful for everything."
