Jaimey Irwin and Simsalabim win the small tour at the 2021 CDI 1*Rockwood in Canada

At the 2021 CDI Rockwood on 16 - 18 July 2021, the first international dressage competition on Canadian soil since the outbreak of the corona pandemic in March 2020, Jaimey Irwin scored a hattrick in the small tour aboard Simsalabim.

The 2021 CDI Rockwood was only a 1* event with a small field of starters, but it was the start of hopefully more competition opportunity in Canada in the future.  Titled the "Angelstone Tournaments CDI" and run by Caledon Dressage, the CDI Rockwood hosted an amateur and open small tour division as well as a U25 tour, in which there was only one starter.

Jaimey Irwin of Stouffville, ON, and Kimberly Wynd’s Simsalabim (by Sir Donnerhall II x Akzent II x Figaro) swept the CDI 1* division. The nine-year-old Oldenburg mare and her rider impressed the judges in the Prix St. Georges, receiving 74.216% before scoring 71.030% in the ntermediate I. The duo saved the best for last and gave their best performance for the judges of the Intermediate I Freestyle on July 18 to earn 76.892%.

Twice ranking behind Jaimey Irwin in the Prix St Georges and Intermediaire was Canadian Olympian Belinda Trussel aboard Insterlana, a 15-year old Westfalian mare by Insterburg x Puertollano. She was initially competed in Europe by German young rider Anna Lena Vosskotter in 2017 and 2018 before selling to Canadian amateur Suzan Zucker through Jaimey and Tina Irwin.

the second placed horse Insterlanna was a horse we found in Germany for one of our amateur clients as a schoolmaster. The mare was a very successful YR horse in Germany. She has since changed trainers to Belinda.

Anne Sutherland of Georgetown, ON, and her very own Funtastico (by Fidertanz x De Niro) won the CDI-Am Prix St. Georges on July 16 with a score of 57.500%. The next day, Anne and the 14-year-old Hanoverian gelding danced into first place in the CDI-Am Intermediate I with a score of 62.451%.

Vanessa Creech-Terauds of Caistor Centre, ON, won both the CDI-U25 Intermediate II and short Grand Prix with her partner, Fleur De Lis L (by First Dance x De Niro). In the Intermediate II class, the duo scored 71.127% before finishing the Grand Prix on 67.949%. Ranked 26th in the FEI World Youth Dressage - U25 Ranking, Vanessa and the 12-year-old Hanoverian mare owned by Diane Creech and Louise Leatherdale are no strangers to international competition. At the start of the year they spent the winter in sunny Florida, USA, where they competed in thirteen CDI Under 25 classes.
