In Neumünster the month of October is traditionally dedicated to horses –it will be the same this year despite the corona pandemic. The  Trakehner Hengstmarkt, stallion market,  will take place from Thursday, 15 October to Saturday, 17 October 2020.

Even though the annual big Trakehner family event with guests from all over Germany, Europe and Overseas has to be waived the Trakehner friends will get together nevertheless to celebrate their horses, but on a smaller scale.

58. Trakehner Hengstmarkt

The best of the population‘s two-and-a-half-year old stallions will present in front of the licensing commission and the year’s elites will be auctioned off during a hybrid event. Winners will be selected for the free jumping cup and the TSF dressage championship. On top of that the winning mare of the year will be announced. By investing a lot of energy and initiative the Trakehner Verband created a small but even nicer program to celebrate its horses. The good news is there are still tickets available, sold for 20 to 40 Euro.

Three well selected collections are of exquisite quality. Thirty-six stallions apply for the much desired approval, two of them appear under saddle. One will be  Avalon’s Easy by Easy Game, paternal half-brother of TSF Dalera BB and the other will be Sir Elton by Millennium, full-brother of the winning stallion Sir Sansibar and of the already licensed Sir Samoa. Hörem’s sire, Schwarzgold has five sons in this year’s collection and therefore the largest lot. Helium by Millennium produced four sons for this year‘s lot. At home at Staffelde stud he presented last year’s winning stallion, Ferrari Forever. In addition, there are very special candidates whose pedigrees and talents speak eventing: Carrying catalogue number 1 and 2 they are the very interesting part breds by Pagur ox and Ostinato xx. Jegier by part bred sire Diverse will represent Polish Trakehner breeding. Hirtentanz, the sire of jumpers and eventers now at home in the United States, produced Malwenstolz, out of  the dam Minzlady, who had been successfully jumping at advanced level. Rauschenberg sired by Lossow is considered a promising eventer, with his dam fathered by Marbach’s sire Laurel.

In addition to the attractive candidates for licensing the collections of mares and foals will raise desire. “Excellent perspective mainly for dressage and eventing“, the vice-manager for breeding, Neel-Heinrich Schoof sees in the auction lots. “Everybody can find something special, whether running a stallion stud or being an ambitious amateur or professional looking for a new sports partner. The breeder searching a mare of excellent quality will be just as satisfied as a consortium wanting to invest in a young licensing candidate.” The ten mares on offer all excel by elegance and quality of movement. Some are in foal, others proved success in the sport or have a top scored mare performance test. Fifteen foals will be auctioned at Neumünster. They can be seen on video already and like all the other horses on offer they show varied and performance proven pedigrees and high quality movements paired with nobility and expression.

From Neumünster to the world

By the way: When Neumünster will be staging the Trakehner Hengstmarkt on the third weekend of October, the world championship of young eventers will take place at Lion D’Angers at the same time. Of course, Trakehners will be competing there. They are the licensed stallions, Sweetwaters Ziethen TSF and Isselhook’s First Sight TSF plus the six-year-old gelding Promising Pete TSF. All three of them had been nominated because of their previous convincing performances. Sweetwaters Ziethen TSF and Isselhook’s First Sight TSF, both started their impressive careers in Neumünster. It is there where the raw diamonds can be found who with careful training will make their way up to the top.

Hybrid is the magic word

Mares and foals will be presented for the first time on Thursday. They will be shown again on Friday before they will find their new owners via hybrid auction in the evening. Hybrid means buyers can bid live on location, over the phone or via the internet at the Trakehner Verband’s auction site.  The premiered  stallions, plus the licensed and not-licensed ones will make the auction highlight of this year’s exceptional licensing days on Saturday evening. Their auction will be held in hybrid form as well. Thus, interested buyers will have various options to secure a top Trakehner.

More than just online

In cooperation with the internet portal ClipMyHorse.TV the Trakehner Verband’s organizers have thought of many things to show more than just live streaming the event. Users will be transported right into Holstenhallen by a complete television program, including interviews, short film sequences, reviews of the day, reports and a lot of background information. In short: At the Trakehner Hengstmarkt you can follow the action and be amidst the event even without being on location.
