Children rider Dionizy Polikowski, junior rider Natalia Plate, young rider Aurelia von Mauberg, Under 25 rider Tomasz Jasinski and senior Grand Prix rider Magdalena Jura became the winners of the 2020 Polish Dressage Championships held at Cichon Dressage in Radzionkow, Poland, on 3 - 6 September 2020.

Weather Deal Breaker

The weather became a heavy deal breaker for a smooth run of the Championships in Radzionkow.

Heavy rain fall on Saturday night meddled with the finals for the children and junior riders as the organizer decided to cancel their third round classes on Sunday morning, instead of postponing to a later hour for the footing to dry out. The Children and Junior Championship were therefore decided by the first two rounds. The other three divisions - Young riders, Under 25 and senior big tour - continued to have three rounds to decide the medals.

Interesting to note is that in Poland riders can declare in different age categories and vie for medals across divisions, whereas in other countries they have to decide on one category per year.

Children and Juniors Do Two Rounds

In the Children class European Children Championship finalist Dionizy Polikowski became the new Polish Champion. Aboard his 7-year old Hanoverian gelding Qiu (by Quaterhall), Polikowski won both rounds with 79.581% and 76.613% for the gold medal and title. The silver went to Taja Zoll aboard the 9-year old NRPS Blacky (by Mikel). She twice settled for second place with 76.198% and 74.125%. The battle for bronze was disputed between Aleksandra Blachno and Maja Kucharska, but in the end Blachno and the 9-year old Holsteiner bred Travenort's Diabolo (by Diarado) ended up on the third step of the podium with 66.095% and 65.609%.

Julia Rogowska, Natalia Plata, Dionizy Polikowski
In the junior division, Natalia Plata and her 13-year old Hanoverian gelding Dolcetto (by Don Frederico) ended up with gold after placing second in the team test with 68.514% and first in the individual with 70.877%. The silver medal went to Julia Rogowska on the 16-year old Hanoverian Da Capo (by De Niro) who was third in round 1 (67.793%) and second in round 2 (67.281%). Children champion Dionizy Polikowski also competed in the junior class. Aboard the 13-year old Dutch warmblood Charmeur (by Vulcano) he won the team est with 69.099 but dropped to a 9th place in the individual with 64.956%. His total of 134.055 handed him the bronze medal.

Von Mauberg and Jasinski Return to the Podium

Aurelia von Mauberg, last year's Polish junior champion, made a seamless transition to Young Riders level aboard her 9-year old Oldenburg Diamo Dream (by Diamo Gold).

She won the national title after three winning rounds. She scored 68.553%, 70.053% and 70.785%. New comers Werinika Frackowiak and the 12-year old KWPN bred Dreamcat (by Dreamcatcher) made an impression with two second places (67.158% and 68.070%) followed by a third place in the last round (69.015%) which still sufficed for a silver medal. The bronze went to Alicja Pachulska on the 11-year old Oldenburg Bentamo (by Belissimo M) who placed third twice (66.184% and 65.526%) and finished off the weekend with a second place (69.260%) to end up on the bronze step on the podium.

After a 3-year break from hosting Championships for Under 25 riders - last time was in 2016 - the 2020 edition brought the division back on the programme. Tomasz Jasinski, the 2016 Polish U25 Champion, is still within the age limit and reclaimed the national title.

Aleksandra Lesner, Tomasz Jasinska, Michal Cichon
Four riders contested the Under 25 division and just three completed all three rounds. Jasinski and his 2015 European Young Riders Championship ride Shosholoza, a 13-year old Oldenburg by Sir Donnerhall, won all three classes and the gold medal. They scored 67.632% in the Inter II, 67.326% in the Short Grand Prix and 70.135% in the Kur. Aleksandra Lesner and the 10-year old KWPN bred Force (by Johnson) raked in the silver after placing second in the Inter II (64.526%), third in the short Grand Prix (64.000%) and second in the Kur (68.980%). Michal Cichon, the younger brother of show organizer Mateusz Chichon, received the rider on his brother's Grand Prix horse Darling's Dream, an 18-year old Hanoverian by Day Dream. The pair was off to a rough start and got eliminated in the first round, but scored 66.070 for second place in the short Grand Prix and 64.530% in the Kur to score the bronze medal.

First Senior Title for Magdalena Jura

Zaneta Skowronska, Magdalena Jura, Mateusz Cichon
The senior Grand Prix championship brought afoot 13 combinations, although just three were able to produce consistent 65% + scores. The Championship was decided by two rounds, the Grand Prix and Kur to Music, and only seven combinations qualified to ride both rounds.

The national title was won by Magdalena Jura aboard the 13-year old Polish warmblood Ron (by Samba Hit II x Rabus). For Jura it was her first major title in her career. Recently relocated from Brussels, Belgium, back to Poland, she was second in the Grand Prix with 68.660% and won the freestyle with 72.950%. Routinier Zaneta Skowronska-Kozubik and the 11-year old German Sport Horse Romantic P (by Rosenstein) won the Grand Prix with 69.100% and were second in the kur with 71.270% to finish on the silver step of the podium. The bronze went to show host Mateusz Cichon on the 13-year old Hanoverian Herzregent (by Hotline). He was third twice with 65.720% and 70.185%.
