The fifth edition of Excellent Dressage Sales (EDS) resulted in a turnover of approximately two million euro on Saturday night 28 April 2018. In attendance of five hundred guests, no less than 41 horses and 9 foals were auctioned at Academy Bartels in Hooge Mierde.

The most expensive horse was Kapralis, a 9-year-old stallion from Coleo x Gudvils. He sold for 400,000 euro.

The second most expensive horse was small tour mare Disney (by Painted Black x Hamlet) which sold for 110,000 euro. Jirina (by Apache) moves to the U.S.A. for 90,000 euro. The black stallion Hoogadel (by Hofrat) achieved a knock down price of 85,000 euro.

Buyers paid 75,000 euro for the gelding Fiskus (by First Selection) as well as for Blue Hors Don Olymbrio's full brother Happy L (by Jazz x Ferro).

In recent year Excellent Dressage Sales has built up a good name abroad and this year again attracted an international audience to Hooge Mierde. With buyers from countries such as America, England, Germany, Switzerland and Denmark, the organisation looks back on a very successful evening.

For the first time the Excellent Dressage Sales in April auctioned a collection of foals. This was appreciated by the buyers and it showed in the prices. The foals jointly generated a profit of 102,500 euro. Noblewood Tarpania, one of the nine foals that was auctioned that night, sold abroad. A telephone bidder from America paid 28,000 for the foal by Revolution x Fürst Romancier.

Nostradamus (by Painted Black x Chippendale) sold for 21,000 euro, Nielson (by Toto Jr x Flemmingh) changed owner for 11,000 euro, and Nairobi (by Secret x Apache) went for 6,500 euro.

Siem Korver received the annual EDS award from organisers Joop van Uytert, Tim Coomans, Eugène Reesink, Nico Witte and Joep Schellekens. Korver was praised by the great successes he achieved during his KWPN presidency and unbridled dedication to horse breeding.

At the start of the auction, a Longines ladies watch made available by Gassan Diamonds, was sold for 1,100 euro to benefit the Johan Cruyff Foundation. Football international Luís Figo also provided a signed football shirt. This sold for 1,600 euro to the lucky buyer.

The next Excellent Dressage Sales auction is on 4 August 2018 at the World Championships for Young Dressage Horses in Ermelo, The Netherlands
