Michel Eilberg's rising Grand Prix horse Half Moon Dynasty has been euthanized after developing a severe infection to the leg that got heavily injured in a hacking accident in May.

Half Moon Dynasty was a 13-year old Hanoverian mare by De Niro, owned by Jon and Julie Deverill.

On 31 May the mare spooked during a hacking session and bolted through numerous fences, sustained severe injuries to her frontlegs. She was transported to the Three Counties Equine Hospital, where she recovered from her wounds. "Mollie" returned home to Eilberg's yard after a month at the equine clinic for further recovery.

Unfortunately her health suddenly deteriorated as she got an infection in the carpal sheatth in the leg that got injured the most.

"She had seemed to be coping ok, but every now and then she would get a little funny on that leg," Eilberg told Horse & Hound. "I thought it was due to her having such a large amount of skin missing, an awful lot of bruising and the wound being sore and tight and catching her, but it had progressed to being incredibly painful."

“Her owner and I thought it was the best decision to let her go," said Eilberg. "We had to weigh up how much we were willing to put her through. It was sensible but gut wrenching. It was so sudden — we had her at grass at 7pm the night before.”
