Danish born American Grand Prix rider Mikala Munter has bought a farm in Graested, Denmark, and will be re-organizing her life, commuting between two continents.
Mikala Munter
The 57-year old Mikala Munter rose to prominence on the international dressage scene when she was still called Mikala Gundersen and fully sponsored by Janne Rumbough to campaign Janne's Danish mare My Lady.
Still riding for Denmark at the time, Mikala experienced career highlight years with My Lady between 2014 and 2016. Trained by Ernest Hoyos, they represented Denmark at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen, the 2015 European Dressage Championships in Aachen, and at the 2014 and 2015 World Cup Finals in Lyon and Las Vegas. They won 13 out of 93 international Grand Prix starts all over Europe and The United States and was the most winning horse at Global dressage Festival 2 years in a row. They were also short listed for the 2016 Olympic Games but did not get selected.
After her divorce from Danish horse dealer and show jumper Henrik Gundersen, Mikala kept Bell Tower farm in Wellington, Florida, which they had bought in 2010. Mikala reverted to her maiden name Munter.
Back to the Roots
After the retirement of My Lady in 2017 Mikala continued to compete internationally in Florida with horses Salsa Hit, De La Vinci, Skyfall, San Tiero, Der Schufro, MSJ Charmer, and Camea.

new farm in Graested, Denmark
"Paul and I bought a beautiful house in Wellington and the plan is to spend the summers in Denmark and the winters here in Florida," Mikala told Eurodressage. "My plan is to arrange clinics at the farm when I’m in Denmark. Claudia and her family will be living there permanently and she will do equine rehab work."
Mikala continued, "down the road we want to make it a summer retreat where people can bring their horses and learn about my training system as well as yoga practice and healthy cooking. We have so many plans but it will be happening gradually."
