Spanish Under 25 rider Alejandro Oliva Lazaro has decided to leave his employer of 7.5 years, Juan Antonio Jimenez, to start a career solo.
The 27-year old Oliva announced the news on social media.
Break-Out Star with Decor
Oliva began riding under Spanish Olympian Juan Antonio Jimenez in 2017. He made his big break-through in 2022 when he was allocated the ride on Sylvia Fort Brescia De Mulder's Hanoverian gelding Decor (by Detroit x Herzensdieb).
They made their international show debut in March 2022 at the CDI Jerez a winning won and in the next three months went on a spectacular. He won all 11 of his 11 international outings. At the 2022 European Under 25 Championships in Pilisjaszfalu (HUN) they wrote history for Spain by winning double individual silver. They concluded the season with the gold medal and title at the 2022 Spanish Under 25 Championships in September. Their time together was cut short when Decor suffered a fatal colic attack in January 2023.
Oliva continued to ride horses for his coach, and was very active on the CDI scene, mainly with young horses Aguileno MOR, Fayenna, Esence de Centurion, Quarzo, and Mr President STH. His last CDI was in August 2025 at the World Young Horse Championships in Verden, where he rode the CDE bred Dintel (pedigree unknown) to a 27th place in the 7-year old preliminary test.
Solo
Alejandro has now parted ways with his coach and gone solo. He did not leave the Madrid area, though, as he is relocating to Mythos equestrian centre.
"Thank you, Juan, for everything you have taught me on and off the track: discipline, respect for the horse, demand, consistency and passion for classic dressage," Oliva stated. "Thank you for trusting me, for all the opportunities I've received, for learning and for helping me grow as a rider and as a professional."
