Former Dutch dressage team rider Laurens van Lieren has been appointed the new Technical Manager  of the Dutch Equestrian Federation (KNHS). He succeeds Iris Boelhouwer.

He will operate alongside Justus Valk, who has been appointed KNHS Sports Manager.

"With these two horsemen at heart, the KNHS is bringing highly experienced and broadly oriented equestrian athletes into the fold," the KNHS stated.

KNHS General Director Cees Roozemond believes that is "fantastic that we've managed to attract two such broadly trained and experienced equestrians to our organization in two crucial roles. Together, we will work hard on our mission to place equestrian sport at the heart of society, to be accessible, and to connect, encourage, and facilitate all equestrians at every level. From enthusiasts to riders with or without their own horse, young and old, from riding school riders to TeamNL. I have complete confidence that we can achieve this with Justus and Laurens on board."

Van Lieren was a multiple medal winning Dutch dressage team member two decades ago. He won several team medals at the European Championships as a junior and young rider and rode three times on the Dutch Grand Prix team between 2005 - 2007, including at the World Championships in Aachen in 2006. He won team silver at the 2005 European Championships in Hagen and historic team gold at the 2007 European Championships in La Mandria.  Van Lieren runs his own dressage stable, is a dressage commentator for television, and was the sporting director of the CHIO Rotterdam from 2011 to 2019.

Van Lieren will now have to tackle the management of all equestrian disciplines under the KNHS umbrella. On 1 October he will begin working three days a week, and then full-time on 1 January 2026.
