2009 French Dressage Championships

Jean Philippe Siat and Stephanie Collier captured the national title at Grand Prix and Small Tour level at the 2009 French Dressage Championships held at the national equestrian centre in Saumur, France, November 6 - 8, 2009.

Jean Philippe Siat and his 13-year old Belgian warmblood Tarski van de Zuuthoeve (by Weltmeyer II x Glorieux) won two out of three rounds of the Grand Prix Championship. He placed second in the Grand Prix with 66,596% but won the Special (67,708%) and Kur to Music (72,850%) to total 207,154 points. Marc Boblet and his second horse, 13-year old Dutch bred stallion Olivier (by Jet Set D x Burggraaf), finished in silver medal position with 67,021%, 65,375% and 70,600% landing on 202,996 points. Pierre Subileau and the 18-year old Danish warmblood Sejlgaards Carlos (by Picandt x Leonardo II) finished in bronze medal position just like last year.

27-year old Siat took over the ride on Tarski one year ago when his then girlfriend Marie-Caroline Maillard sadly and untimely passed away. "Her parents were so kind to offer me the ride at the beginning of the year," Siat explained. "Each time I enter the ring, for each test, I think of her." The pair qualified on the French team and competed at the 2009 European Championships in Windsor.

Remarkable absentees at the 2009 French Championships were pretty much all recent French team riders: Marc Boblet did not ride his top horse, Dominique d'Esme, Julia Chevanne, and Hubert Perring weren't there and Constance Menard as well as Karen Tebar retired their top horses this year.

At small tour level Stephanie Collier and Wisdom narrowly edged out Arnaud Serre to take the national title. Collier and her 10-year old Hanoverian by Weltmeyer x Matcho AA finished third in the Prix St Georges (68,053)%, second in the Intermediaire I (70,053%) and won the Kur (75,300%). She totalled 213,406 points and beat Serre's 212,579 grand total. Aboard the 9-year old Oldenburg gelding Le Guerrier (by De Niro) scored more than 70% in the Inter I and Inter 2 to finish in silver medal position. Alban Tissot and Le Whirlwind (by Weltmeyer x Donnerhall) finished with the bronze.
