2009 Spanish Junior and Young Riders Championships

Mangado and Alvarez won the 2009 Spanish Junior and Young Riders Championships held in Toledo, Spain, September 11 - 13, 2009.

There were only very few extraordinary rides in Toledo, but all three winners of the national title showed that they had done their homework. The basis for youth riders should be good training and riding and in order to win horses of high quality are necessary. There are a few exceptions, such as Severo Jurado who got everything out of the average quality RMR Civitas and ended up with the young riders silver medal.

At junior riders level Laura Mangado of the Robledales equestrian centre and her 15-year old Dutch warmblood horse Liguster (by Cabochon x Pantheon). Trained by Rafael Murga and Joaquin Legarre, Mangado won the team test, placed seventh in the individual test and recovered in the Kur to Music to win the overall championships and claim the gold medal. Estefania Rios and the 12-year old Lord de Nicole became the reserve champions. Trained by Lucas Elias, Rios and her Dutch warmblood excelled in the elegant and suspended trot work but struggled with the flying changes. Isabel Ruiz and Don landed a bronze medal position.

Artur Alvarez Pou and the Dutch warmblood CAVA Ohio (by Jazz) became the new Spanish Young Riders Champions. Sidelined last year due to an injury, Alvarez and Ohio returned to full glory winning all three championship rounds and establishing an average score of 69.302%. Severo Jurado stayed close in the running with Alvarez, breathing down his neck at all times in the ranking. Aboard the 10-year old bay gelding RMR Civitas, Jurado established an average score of 68,103% which earned him silver. Ainhoa Prada Ortiz and the 11-year old Hanoverian Double O Seven (by Davignon x Wendekreis) got the bronze.
