State stud Celle reported the loss of their young breeding stallion and dressage horse Lord Charmeur. The 5-year old was put to sleep following severe laminitis.

Lord Charmeur was a 2021 born KWPN stallion by Lord Europe out of Jowy VOD (by Charmeur x Furst Heinrich) .He was bred by Annie Wessels-Haselhorst.

The black comes out of the dam line that also produced licensed stallions UB40 and Davino VOD.

Owned by German Heike Pleines, Lord Charmeur was first licensed at a private licensing for the Westfalian society in February 2024 followed by approval at the 2024 Hanoverian main licensing 2024. In March 2025 he was also accepted by the Oldenburg breeding society.

He stood at stud in Celle and did his 50-day stallion performance test in Adelheidsdorf in the autumn of 2024. He scored 9 for dressage

Sport Career

Lord Charmeur was only very lightly competed.

He did his first show under Stefanie Ahlert in May 2024 in a riding horse test in Lienen, scoring a winning 8.4? In 2025 Ahlert rode him in three shows in Everswinkel, Greven and Munster at riding horse and A-level.

Janina Tietze took over the ride this year and trailered Lord Charmeur to the Dutch WCYH selection trials in The Netherlands, where he was picked to represent KWPN at the 2026 World Young Horse Championships in Verden. However, his laminitis started in July and he had to be withdrawn from competing in Verden.

Gone too Soon

In the summer the stallion suffered from laminitis and could not be saved.

"For reasons unexplained to us, Lord Charmeur developed laminitis, which was closely treated by our veterinary clinic and our farrier. When his condition did not improve after two weeks, we transferred him to the (Großmoor equine) clinic for even more intensive treatment. There they fought for him for four weeks."

Celle explained that, "unfortunately, it couldn't be prevented there that he foundered on the other three legs. Despite our greatest efforts, we finally had to let him go. This loss is a disaster. We are mourning not only an exceptional athlete, but also a stallion in whom our breeders had the highest expectations. They recognized his qualities early on and already used him very well last season."
