The Westfalian Horse Breeding Association released a ranking of the most used breeding stallions in 2025 for show jumping and dressage, as well as a ranking for the most foals born.
A truly clear system for counting the coverings does not seem to exist in Germany though as "the coverings cannot be completely recorded as some stallion stations do not hand out their coverings completely but in part only when the foals have been born," the studbook told Eurodressage.
Most Covered: Grey Tonic
The Oldenburg stallion Grey Tonic PS (by Grey Flanell x Zonik) was most popular amongst Westfalian dressage horse breeders in 2025. He covered 69 mares in Westfalia (rumour has it he covered over 500 mares in Germany across studbooks but no official statistics exist).
Grey Tonic is bred by Paul Schockemöhle and purchased by Judith Koeppel for 276,000 euro in the 2024 Paul Schockemöhle online auction of 2.5 year old colts. Sina Aringer rode him at the 2025 Verden Shortened Suitability Test, where he was the high scorer with 8.83 points.
The second best result was achieved by Entertainer Number One with 60 coverings, followed by popular NRW sire Diamantenglanz and more established sire Secret, both with 56 Westfalian mares covered.
The most popular breeding stallion in Westfalia in 2025 was jumper Kartal's Emerald with 98 coverings reported.
Most Foals Born: Diamantenglanz
The 7-year old Oldenburg bred Diamantenglanz (by Diamond First x Bon Coeur x For Compliment), bred by Wieghaus-Vorwerk, was the most used stallion for Westfalian breeders in 2023 and 2024 and the number two in 2025.
This also resulted in him being the sire with the most foals born in 2025. In 2024 led the covering statistics with 144 coverings, but of that number only 81 have been registered or are included in the stats. This is still the highest number of 2025.
Vjento has 55 foals registered (while 50 coverings were recorded in the stats of 2024), and Dark Dynamic got 54 foals born (of 65 recorded coverings in 2024)
