German squad ride Carina Scholz and the Oldenburg mare La Jolie SW OLD became the winners of the 6-year old consolation finals at the 2025 World Young Horse Championships in Verden (GER) on Thursday afternoon 7 August 2025.
The top three ranked combinations of the small final are allowed to compete in the finals on Saturday, turning the group of finalists into 15 pairs.
Carina Scholz and Sabine Wehle's bay mare La Jolie SW OLD (by Escamillo x Londonderry) scored the high score in the class, 86.200%, for the win. The mare got 9 for trotn 8.5 for walk and canter, 8.4 for submission and 8.7 for general impression.
Scholz improved her result from Wednesday's preliminary test by 3.6 percent. “She really comes into her own in the arena and wants to show what she can do, “ explained the rider, “ but in the qualifier she was a little overwhelmed by everything going on around her and was a bit shy. Today was much better and now I hope that she will feel a little more comfortable in the arena on Saturday and perform even better.”
Wehle has bred several foals from the Hanoverian dam Laissez-Fair by Londonderry, all of which have been successful, but La Jolie is the first to compete in a World Championship.
French Corentin Pottier and the Oldenburg bred gelding Emoji JCD SL (by Emilio x Foundation) landed second place with 85.000%. Bred by Stefanie Löhmann and owned by Corentin's wife Camille Judet Chéret, Emoji got 8K.5 for trot, 8.7 for walk, 8.4 for canter and submission and 8.5 for perspective.
German born Australian Alexandra Vodermair just missed out on a spot in the final aboard her Australian Young Horse champion, the imported Hanoverian gelding Exact (by Escamillo x Hohenstein). They scored 81.800% for fourth place.
The class was judged by Kurt Christensen, Sven Rothenberger, Mats Eriksson, and Agnieszka Majewska with Rothenberger providing the public commentary on each ride.
