The KWPN breeding society and KNHS held its second team selection trial for the 2025 World Young Horse Championships on 20 - 21 May 2025 and have announced the short listed horses invited to the third and final trial.

The second trial took place in Nunspeet and included the long-listed horses as well as five wildcard horses. The selection committee includes Johan Hamminga, Alex van Silfhout and Janine van Twist.

“We had two very good days in Nunspeet," said Johan. “This is a very nice facility and everything was top notch, which allowed us to work well. They have good footing and ample parking in Nunspee. The warm-up area is close to the arena and we had two rings next to each other. The horses could quietly do their test here, which allowed us to assess them well.”

Hamminga is confident about the final selection moment. “This was a very strong group of horses, especially the five-year olds excel. As the process progresses, the test-technical aspect will count more and more. We are very satisfied with the quality of the horses, but also with the quality of the riders. We were able to add two wildcards to the selection. These horses have to prove themselves again in the final observation moment, but we think that they are horses that fit well in the selection process. In the third selection, a few horses will also be added that were absent the past two days with a certificate. They can participate in the final selection because we did assess them at the first observation moment and they showed such a performance that we would like to see them again. I am confident that we will go to the final observation with a good group, from which we can make a strong selection.”
