
The 32-year old KWPN licensed stallion Consul passed away on 7 July at his home in Coatesville, U.S.A. For 28 years, Consul has been a flagship stallion at Iron Spring Farm
(ISF).
Consul was born on 5 March 1984 at J. Kaas' yard in The Netherlands. He was by Nimmerdor out of Waloniki (by Purioso). He was licensed in The Netherlands and did his 100-day stallion performance test in Ermelo, scoring 7.5 for his gaits.
The dark bay stallion sold to Mary Alice Malone in the U.S.A. as a 4-year old in 1988. He was competed for two years at fourth level (M/S-level) by Malone. From October 1991 till September 1992 he scored from 59.595% to 66.857% in the fourth level tests at six different shows.
Consul mainly focused on his breeding career and was known for being a very versatile producer. He sired over 508 horses registered with the KWPN-NA.
His most successful offspring is the show jumper Judgement ISF, the first American born and bred Approved KWPN stallion. Judgement represented the USA on 10 Nation’s Cup teams, including the World Equestrian Games, won the $1 million CN International at Spruce Meadows, and retired sound at age 18 with more than $1 million in lifetime earnings.
His most successful dressage offspring is the KWPN bred Zanzibar, who six Developing Horse Grand Prix classes under Katie Riley in 2014. The pair finished third in the 2013 U.S. Developing Grand Prix Horse Championship.
Consul’s daughter Hivona received her Keur, Preferent and Prestatie predicates for her offspring born in North America, a unique distinction. Among her progeny is Andorra ISF, Keur/Sport, a winning FEI dressage horse. In 2006, Hivona won the prestigious Produce of Dam class at Dressage at Devon, and now at age 27, she exemplifies the long, healthy lifespan of the Consul/Nimmerdor line.
“Consul was a wonderful, special horse,” recalls owner and rider Mary Alice Malone. “It has been amazing to experience 28 years of partnership in various forms. We’ve been through a lot together. His
presence is truly missed."
