Horse Sport Ireland, the Irish equestrian federation, has annpounced the Pony Dressage High Performance and Development Squads for 2016. Anne Marie Dunphy is Ireland's pony team trainer and team captain.
Athletes who are competing at medium/FEI pony level, have achieved 65% plus on two occasions nationally and are either competing at or aiming shortly for international level are considered for the Pony High Performance Squad.
Athletes working/competing at novice and elementary levels and working towards medium level with a view to progressing to international level are considered for the Pony High Performance Development Squad. These athletes must produce two scores of 65% or more at medium/FEI pony level to progress to the High Performance Squad.
For the Pony Reserve List HP Development Squad, athletes are advised to continue to compete at affiliated shows, engage with Dressage Ireland Youth Development Programs in their regions keeping the High Performance Manager updated on their progress and results. On a rota basis one rider will be invited to each squad training, with further riders offered slots where vacancies allow.
Athletes will be monitored throughout the season by the High Performance Manager. In the event that an athlete meets the qualifying criteria during the season, the Athlete must apply with relevant score sheets to the High Performance Manager for upgrading. Athletes must be aware that they will be moved up, down or off the previous squad lists based on their results in 2015/16 and at the discretion of the High Performance Manager. All squad athletes will receive subsidized training and mentoring with the High Performance Manager. To remain on the squad riders must show commitment to the HP program.
