Trakehner Breeding News

Just three days before his 25th birthday, the Trakehner licensed stallion Showmaster (by Kostolany x Ibikus) passed away at stallion station Hämekschenburg in Germany on 16 April 2015.

Showmaster was bred by Otto Langels and was by Kostolany out of Elite mare Schwalbenburg (by Ibikus x Impuls x Traumgeist xx).

He was approved for Trakehner breeding at the late licensing in Medingen in December 1993. He did his Stallion Performance Test in Adelheidsdorf in 1993 and scored 99.63 points, finishing 29th out of 53 participating stallions.

In 2002 Langels sold the stallion to Petra Siebert-Lindemann, but Beate Langels bought him back in 2005 after the stallion briefly stood up for stud in the Hessian area and one year in Switzerland. In 2001 Showmaster returned to Germany and was briefly ridden by Klaus Balkenhol

As a breeding stallion Showmaster was never very popular. He has no licensed offspring and only 14 daughters are registered in Germany as broodmares.

Show master proved himself as a dressage horse. As a 3-year old he was trained and competed by Otto Langels, Martina Lutzke, and Miriam Henschke. Under Johannes Westendarp the bay became reserve champion at the Trakehner Young Horse Championships in Vornholz. With Henschke he finished seventh at the 1993 Bundeschampionate in Mannheim.  In 1994 he was ridden by Hauke Jäger and Harald Minkolei. The German based Swiss team rider Christian Pläge took over the ride on the stallion in 1995 and brought him up to Grand Prix. Owner Siebert-Lindemann showed him in 2002 and 2003 and then retired the stallion from competition.
