The Oldenburg licensed stallion Don Schufro (by Donnerhall x Pik Bube) is the leader on the 2013 German Breeding Value Index, which was released by the breeding department of the German Equestrian federation today.
The German breeding value index is based on the performances of the sires as well as their offspring.
"The goal of the breeding value index is to estimate the hereditary performance value of a stallion and give the breeders the necessary tools to select a stallion," the FN explained.
Don Schufro was already the leading sire in 2012 but then had 170 points. This year he scored 169 points with the same performance reliability of 96%.
The second highest scoring stallion is the Westfalian Rock Forever (by Rockwell) with a breeding value index of 168 points and a reliability 93%. Two stallions tie in third place with 167 points: Damon Hill (by Donnerhall x Rubinstein) and Furstenball (by Furst Heinrich x Donnerhall).
It is worth noting that the WBFSH highest ranked dressage sire De Niro (by Donnerhall x Akzent II) not even ranks amongst the top scoring stallions on the German Breeding Value Index!
