The Oldenburg licensed breeding stallion Ex Libris passed away. The 23-year old dark bay stallion died peacefully in his paddock at his owner's place Waterview Park in Australia on Sunday 22 March 2009.

Ex Libris was bred by the Dutch KWPN breeder Toine Hoefs and is by Elan xx out of keur mare Aphrodite (by Principaal x Juweel). The stallion made his fame in Germany though. He was licensed in Munster-Handorf in 1989 and became the 100-Day stallion Performance Test winner in Medingen, Germany, in 1991. He was initially stationed in the Oldenburg area.

Ex Libris produced four licensed offspring, including the 1997 Bundeschampion Exupery and the Carl Hester's 2004 Olympic mount Escapado. Ex Libris' daughters turned out to be outstanding brood mares and produced premium stallions Rubinero (by Rubinstein) and De Libris (by De Niro).

At a later age, Ex Libris stood at stud in the U.S.A. for one season, before being imported by Joanne Everly and Sheree Scott to Australia in 2004. He unfortunately became infertile and spent the last few years in retirement.
