Swedish horse owner Patrik Hannell has sold the small tour horse Kai van Wittenstein P to Jan Brink's American student Rebecca Cohen.

Kai van Wittenstein P is 5-year old KWPN bred gelding by Dream Boy out of Ziggy van Wittenstein A (by Florencio x Havidoff). He is bred by Jan van Pernis and Monique van der Kleij in The Netherlands.

As a 3-year old he was the runner-up in the 2018 VWF Trophy competition, a Dutch regional talent spotting show held annually at equestrian centre De Prinsenstad.  He was presented by Daniëlle Kok, who at the time co-owned the horse with the breeders.

Soon afterwards Kai sold to Patrik Hannell as an investment horse and was trained by Johan Svensson in Sweden.

Svensson and Kai competed in the 4-year old young horses classes held at the 2019 CDI Falsterbo last summer and placed second with 85.0 points. The horse earned 8.5 for walk, 8.3 for trot, 8.7 for canter, 7.9 for submission and 9 for general impression.

Championships
The 24-year old Rebecca Cohen is a former international youth rider. She started on ponies, riding the palomino mare Day of Diva, who was later shipped back to Europe and became the European Pony Champion under Dana van Lierp.

With the Westfalian registered Downtown (by Delmar x Joachim), Rebecca competed at the 2010 and 2012 North American Junior Riders Championships. She took the Dutch bred Optimus B (by Kennedy x Pygmalion) to the 2011 North American Junior Riders Championships.  She became the reserve U.S. Junior Rider Champion in 2012. Her last international start dates back to March 2013 when she competed Downtown at young riders level at the CDI Wellington.

The Wellington based Cohen went to study Classics (Ancient Greek and Roman History) and Sociology at Union College and graduated in June 2018, after which she took up riding again.

Training in Sweden

In May 2019 Rebecca moved to Jan Brink's stable in Sweden and rode three horses she all bought from Brink: Grand Prix horse Pronto (by Prestige x Hubertus), small tour horse Missisippi (by Highcruiser x Maraton) and the 7-year old Tuschomie (by Tuschinski x Blue Hors Romancier).

"I stayed in Sweden training with Jan and his rider Ida Linn Lundholm until mid November 2019 when I came home for season in Wellington with the horses. We then decided in February to look for another horse, a young one for me to develop further, and found Kai," Rebecca told Eurodressage. "I brought him home to Wellington about two and a half weeks ago, but  plan to go back to Sweden for two years. Depending when this (corona) virus cools down I will go back to Sweden with Pronto, Tuschomie and Kai for more training with Brink."

Rebecca is now working at home with Kevin Kohmann and is aiming to have a professional career in dressage. She also has two home bred horses, the 3-year old Augustus (by Abacus out of Oldenburg elite mare Samt und Seide (by Sandro Hit)) and Captain (by Come Back II).

"I would like to have my own training and sales business one day, hopefully soon in the coming years. That is what I am working towards," said Rebecca.
