A Floriscount colt and a Fahrenheit filly were named the winners of the 2016 German Foal Championships which took place in Lienen, Germany, on 15 - 17 July 2016.

After three days of competition at the German Foal and Elite Mare Championships, the winners were crowned on Sunday 17 July 2016.

In the colt division a German Sport Horse registered colt by Floriscount out of Quintina (by Quaterback) was named the champion. The liver chestnut colt is bred by Alwin Strohmeier. An Oldenburg registered Morricone x Dumont colt, bred by Jörr Pontow, was named the runner-up. Janne-Kristin Piries' Westfalian bred Veneno x De Niro finished third.

In the filly category an Oldenburg registered Fahrenheit x De Niro filly, bred by Charlotte and Heinrich Hentemann, was named champion. Gunther Reim's Bailamos Biolley x Desperados filly ranked second and sold on the spot to Christina Arns-Krogmann, the owner of German Olympic team horse Weihegold. Gestut Elstertal's German Sport Horse registered Furstenball x Sandro Hit ranked third.

Bonny Royal In the pony division, a Westfalian registered HET Golden Dream x Champion de Luxe offspring, bred by Pohlmann and Weber, topped the board and received the champion's sash. Soelring Hoff Schurek's pony foal by Mr Right x Mangold was the reserve champion.

The German Foal Championship also annually features the Elite Mare Championship open to all German breed societies. This year Bonny Royal was named 2016 German Elite Mare Champion. The Hanoverian bred Bon Bravour mare is bred by Roger van Engelant and scored 171.50 points. Best pony mare was Deep Red, a Westfalian registered Dimension x Viscount offspring bred by Marlies Brinkmann.
