No dressage rider has been shortlisted for the 2014 FEI Best Athlete Award handed out each year at the FEI Award Gala during the General Assembly to the most successful equestrian athlete of the year.

Last year Charlotte Dujardin won the award, but this year there are no dressage riders reached the short list even though Dujardin, for instance, won the World Cup Finals, World Championships and Aachen Grand Championship this year.

""After a year of outstanding sporting achievements from our athletes across all disciplines it was an especially difficult task to create a shortlist of only four athletes," the FEI state. "The public nomination process highlighted a wide range of athletes from which the following four were selected to go through to the judges’ vote."

The nominated riders for the 2014 FEI Best Athlete Award are carriage driver Boyd Exell, show jumpers Daniel Deusser and Jeroen Dubbeldam, and vaulter Joanne Eccles.
