2010 Swiss Warmblood Stallion Licensing

Five stallions were approved at the 2010 Swiss Warmblood Stallion Licensing held at the national equestrian centre in Avenches, Switzerland, on 4 - 6 November 2010.

All licensed 3-year old colts were show jumping bred and this year the Swiss Warmblood association failed in bringing forward and accepting any dressage stallions.

The Swiss warmblood society does not name a licensing champion but just proclaims a stallion licensed or not. The five accepted show jumpers were Cassirado (by Cassini x Acorado), Corassini von Gurbru (by Cassini II x Dubeaux Deloupe), Italo (by Ideal du Pichoux x Lysander), Coronino (by Corofino x Fra Diavolo) and Himmerdor (by Nimmerdor x Gurioso).

Coincidingly with the stallion licensing, the Swiss breeding society hosted a Swiss Breed Classic for young sport horses. Two finals were held: one free-jumping and one dressage suitability class. Gilles Ngovan rode the chestnut Furstentraum CH (by Feinsinn x Davignon x Matcho AA) to victory in the suitability class, scoring 8 for walk, 9.5 for trot, 9 for canter, 8.5 for rideability an 9 for general impression. Furstentraum is bred by Otto Kocherhans and owned by Chrstina Ernst.

The mare Adelina Grande (by Don Marco x Abanos x Granulit) became the reserve champion. Bred by Walter and Heidi Kunz-Hofstetter and owned by Christian Meyer, this mare scored 8 for walk, 9 for trot and canter, 8.75 for rideability and 9 for general impression. She was just 0.25 points behind the winner.

Peter Schenk's Online SPM (by Denario x Kennedy x Consul/T) finished third with 7s for walk and trot and 8s for canter, rideability and general impression. This horse was 4 points in total behind the champion.

Several Swiss dressage horse owners opted to show their dressage prospects in the free jumping final for 3-year olds. One serious and successful breeder remarked, "it is much easier and less time-consuming to prepare a horse for this final (free jumping)." The winner of the jumping final was Eliano Meroni's Oplita (by Ogano Sitte x Tinka's Boy x Palestro II). The mare received solid 9s in the two rounds and was a league of her own in the final. Pascal Buscher's Cayman Athletic (by C Indoctro x Carolus x Lysander) was the reserve champion. The highest placed partly dressage bred youngster ranked third: Beatrice Oberli's Vina (by Conteur x Coeur de Nuit x Calando II)
