Successful Oldenburg horse breeder Stefanie Löhmann has passed away. She lost her battle against brain cancer on 13 May 2026.

Brave Battle

Lohmann was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in May 2023 after suffering an aneurysm. She has underwent multiple operations in 2024 and bravely battled the disease, despite the many headaches she suffered from.   She defied the odds and lived more than double the time the doctors had diagnosed her with.

In September 2025 her illness took a turn for the worst. Löhmann was very open about condition and wrote on Facebook, "ever since that last bad MRI scan, I’ve felt for weeks as though I were in free fall with no safety net or parachute. Since the bad diagnosis, I haven’t been able to get hold of the neurosurgeon. There’s been no discussion about what happens next, no new tumour board meeting and no invitation to the hospital for another operation. Absolutely nothing. The first thing, after we finally managed to get hold of him, was a list of mobile palliative care services we could contact to support Maya and Jörg in my end-of-life care. Otherwise, all that remains for me now is to move into a hospice. Doctors and hospitals can do nothing more for me. That was his statement.  Why am I writing this so openly? In the hope that it won’t tear me apart inside any further, but that it will somehow become more bearable. That’s how quickly a lifelong dream of horse breeding can be over. Gave it everything and still lost."

Successful Breeder

In a short period of time Lohmann turned herself into a highly successful Oldenburg dressage horse breeder. She bred dressage horses and licensed stallions Destello OLD (by Dimaggio x Furst Fugger), Bueno SL (by Bonds x Foundation), Bernstein SL (by Bonds x Quaterback), Simply Nice (by San Amour x Furst Romancier), amongst others.

In 2024 one of her wishes was to sit once on breeding stallion Vitalis, something co-owner Lone Boegh Henriksen generously made happen.

Greatly Missed

"Your grace, honesty, sense of humor, the way you treated me on my visits to Germany were beyond what i expect these days," said American dressage horse owner Gavin Britz, who owned and collaborated closely with Lohmann in the last few years. "Your horses and breeding program world class but the human Stefanie was so much more than the horses."

Stefanie leaves behind her husband Jörg and daughters Maya and Dana, and grandchild Otto.
