Besandro Gold Named Champion of the 2026 Oldenburg Saddle Licensing

The Oldenburg bred Besandro Gold was named the champion of the 2026 Oldenburg Saddle Licensing in Vechta on Friday 10 April 2026.

The Oldenburg breeding society held a saddle licensing for the 15th time. Nineteen young stallions were entered for the licensing, ten were licensed, two were excused..

Like Father, Like Son

The 3-year old Besandro Gold was named the champion. He is by Best of Gold, a former saddle licensing champion himself, and out of elite mare Edwina (by Sandro Hit). He is bred and owned by Heinz Ahlers. Besandro Gold's full sister Ewina Gold OLD is the 2024 Oldenburg Elite reserve champion mare.

"He was always perfectly in rhythm at the trot, which continued into the canter," praised breeding director Peer Eitenmüller. Guest rider Janina Tietze subsequently confirmed that the charming dark bay stallion was a very pleasant horse to ride.

The champion sold at auction for 100,000 euro.

Three Premium

Aside from the champion stallion, two further stallions were named premium.

The reserve champion is the 3-year old Davosino (by Dynamic Dream x Fürstenball), bred by Erwin Schäfer and owned by Andreas Kaiser. He is out of brilliantring mare Fiscarya OLD and was Oldenburg reserve young horse champion as a 5-year old. Davosino sold at auction for 45,000 euro.

The third ranked premium stallion was the 4-year old black Dahlmann (by Debutant PS x San Amour), bred by Daniela Graé and owned by the Spanish company Plan Zeya SLU

"The Oldenburg stallion licensing in Vechta has proven to be an important springboard for breeding and top-level sport in recent years," said director Roland Metz. "Numerous top stallions were discovered here and subsequently developed into celebrated stars on the national and international stage."
