The 18-year old Hanoverian stallion Laurentianer has passed away on Tuesday 3 April 2012 due to cancer. The stallion was humanely put down. He was owned by the Westfalian Landgestut but the last few years in his life he stood at stud at Schulte-Böcker's station in Muthagen.

Bred by Heinz Klatt, Laurentianer (by Lauries Crusador xx x Grande x Eisenherz) started his stallion career at the 1996 Hanoverian Stallion Licensing. One year later he did his stallion performance test and scored an index of 126,17 points.

Laurentianer first came into the international spotlight by winning the 2000 World Young Horse Championships in Arnheim, The Netherlands, under Michael Farwick, a rider at the NRW Landgestut. However, little over a month later the stallion failed to impress at the 2000 Bundeschampionate in Warendorf.

Under the guidance of Johan Hinnemann, Marlies van Baalen took over the training and competition career of the bay stallion and trained him up to Grand Prix level. In 2002 they made their debut at small tour level. In 2005 they competed at Grand Prix level at a few national shows in Germany as well as at the CDI Oldenburg, but their scores were never impressive as Grand Prix was above the potential of the horse, whose weak hind leg usage was often a point of criticism. In the autumn of 2006 the horse was retired from competition and returned to Warendorf.

As a breeding stallion Laurentianer sired 11 licensed sons and 22 state premium mares. Laurentianer has 234 offspring registered as sport horses. His most famous offspring is the Swedish team horse Lennox (by Laurentianer x Florestan) which competed at the 2011 European Championships under Cecilia Dorselius. Other successful get includes Grand Prix stallion Laureus NRW as well as Dorothee Schneider's small tour horse Laura Lux and Tara Schneider's young riders horse Little Diamond.
