The first day of dressage competition at the 2017 CDIO-PJYR Hagen "Future Champions" at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen, Germany, concluded on Thursday 15 June 2017 with the Junior Riders' Nations Cup. After a broiling hot day of 30°, the junior competition literally cooled down when thunder storms brought pouring rain to the show grounds to cool of the day's heat and water the arena.

The German junior riders' team secured the vicrory ahead of the Dutch and Swiss team. The junior team test was judged by Cesar Torrente (COL), Ulrike Nivelle (GER) and Alban Tissot (FRA).

Rebecca Horstmann from Ganderkesee, Linda Erbe from Krefeld and Johanna Sieverdingen from Cappeln brought a smile to teal trainer Oliver Oelrich’s face at the end of the day as the competition wrapped up around 20h00 in the evening.  “That was a very good, and balanced team performance – most of all from our two newbees Linda and Johanna, who both produced very strong results.”

Erbe rode the 7-year old German Sport Horse gelding Fierro (by Fürst Wettin x Eskadron) to a first place in the team championship test with 75.811%. Erbe's modern and athletic Fierro defies his young age with his self carriage and expression in his gaits. The strong walk and good canter part made the pair score consistent mid 70% marks with all three judges. Sieverding and Horstmann finished on places four and five with Lady Danza (73.694%) and Friend of Mine (73.243%).

The Dutch team, supervised by team trainer and chef d'equipe Alex van Silfhout, had Mylene Spaak, Zoe Kuintjes and Daphne Van Peperstraten secure second place in the Nations Cup. For the first time this 2017 show season, Holland's unbeatable junior rider - Daphne van Pepeterstraten and the 10-year old Dutch warmblood Cupido (by Johnson x Duko) -- travelled outside The Netherlands to face competition abroad. The pair rode a very strong test and finished second in the team test with 74.099% but her marks ranged from 71.486% to 77.297%. Van Peperstraten had Cupido nicely up in the bridle throughout and while she has her upper body and hands beautifully quiet, it would be even prettier to see her lower legs closer to the body of the horse.

The Swiss team supervised by Heidi Bemelmans landed third place in the Nations' Cup. The team was spearheaded by Leonie Guerra on the 13-year old Danish warmblood Atnon (by De Noir x Akinos), who finished fifth with 72.523%.
