The 5-year old Henkie, the 6-year old Governor and the 7-year old Fleau de Baian became the winners of the second trial for Dutch team selection for the 2017 World Young Horse Championships, to be held in Ermelo, The Netherlands, the first weekend of August. The second selection trial was hosted in Kootwijk, The Netherlands, on Friday 12 May 2017.

This second trial became a massive feat for Dutch Olympian Adelinde Cornelissen who won all three divisions on her young stars.

In the 5-year old division, Adelinde and the Gelderlander Henkie (by Alexandro P) scored 91 points for the victory. The big mover outclassed Emmelie Scholtens on Hero (by Apache), who finished second with 84 points. Hero stood out with his ability to collect. Mara de Vries and Coby van Baalen's home bred Habibi DVB (by Don Schufro) were third with 81.6 points.

In the 6-year old division Cornelissen and the KWPN licensed stallion Governor (by Totilas x Jazz) landed first place with 88.4 points. The judges praised the black stallion for his suppleness and cadence. 2015 European Young Rider Champion  finished second on the liver chestnut Gunner KS (by Belissimo M), who has a massive, uphill canter. Tommie Visser and Gentle (by Jazz) were third with 80 points.

In the 7-year old age category, Cornelissen steered Fleau de Baian (by Jazz x Ulft), the full brother of her number one horse Parzival, to victory with 77.22%, but Kirsten Brouwer and the licensed stallion Ferdeaux (by Bordeaux) were very closely on their heels with a fraction of a point less (77.21%). The judges rewarded Fleau de Baian's quality flying changes and ability to collect in canter. Ferdeaux shone with his power and impressive front. Mara de Vries and the KWPN mare Farzana (by Ampere) slotted in third with 75.95% after scoring highly on her extensions.

Two more qualification events will take place for Dutch WCYH selection: on 21 May in Nieuw en St. Joosland and on 28 May in Uden. The semi finals will be held in Etten Leur on 16 - 17 June and from there the final group will be allowed to contest the finals on 13 and 15 July 2017, held during the Dutch Championships. The Dutch team will be announced on 15 July.
