Finley (by For Romance x Diamond Hit) was named the champion of the 2020 German Sport Horse (DSP) Stallion Licensing held in Munich, Germany, on 24 - 26 January 2020.
Thirty-six colts in total out of a collection of 72 were approved for breeding; 22 of them are dressage bred. Eight stallions were named "premium."
The dressage champion of the licensing was Finley (by For Romance x Diamond Hit), bred by Brockmann and Drechsler and owned by Luxembourg Grand Prix rider Mandy Zimmer. She purchased the stallion as a foal at the Nördlingen Foal Auction and will keep him as her future dressage horse.
"A stallion with outstanding trot work, maximum expression and outstanding cadence," said licensed committee chair Jörg Schrödter. "In canter he has much ground cover, is uphill and in walk he's secure in the rhythm. A complete horse which thrills with his movement quality and excellent character."
Premium dressage stallions were a colt by Amazing Spirit x Lord Loxley, a De Koonig x Destano, and a Sezuan x Furst Heinrich.
The most expensive horse at the auction following the licensing was the premium colt Shu Fu (by Sezuan x Furst Heinrich). Bred by Gestut Greim, this chestnut colt sold for 180,000 euro to state stud Celle.
State stud Marbach purchased the Ben Benicio x Quaterback for 32,000 euro. Wilhelm Holkenbrink acquired the Franklin x Don Schufro for 57,000 euro and Gestut Tannenhof bought the Spörcken x Furst Piccolo for 95,000 euro. The premium De Koonig x Destano (full brother to last year's champion) sold for 95,000 euro. Dressage riders Martin Schaudt and Ann Kathrin Linder also bought horses at this auction.
The average price for a licensed stallion at this licensing was 44,687 euro. A non-licensed stallion sold for 23,580 euro on average.
