D'Artagnan, Furstenberg and United Europ Win 2017 Austrian Warmblood Young Horse Championships

2017 Austrian Warmblood Young Horse Championships

The 3-year old Broadmoar's D'Artagnan, the 4-year old Bartlgut's Furstenberg and the 6-year old United Europ became the grand winners of the 2017 Austrian Young Horse Championships held in Stadl Paura, Austria, on 29 September - 1 October 2017. Four divisions for dressage horses were staged at these Austrian Young Horse Nationals which also cover show jumping, eventing and driving.

In Austria two age groups are set up for the dressage horses. The 4 and 5 year olds are remarkably grouped together, as well as the 5 year olds with 6-year olds, despite the big difference in maturity and training in these ages. The Nationals also include two riding horse classes for 3 and 4 year olds.

In the 3-year old riding horse class, Heimo Kendlbacher and Broadmoar's D'Artagnan (by Destano) scored the title with a total score of 8.6 points. Guest judge riders Harald Siegl and Stefan Peter rewarded the horse with 8.0 and 8.7 for rideability and potential. Stephanie Dearing and Quentin Tarantino (by Quaterhall) were the runners up. Bred by Bettina Fasching, he scored a total of 8.43 points. Daniel Spindler and Cinnamon M (by Cennin x Fire van de Heffinck) landed third place with 8.27 points. This horse is bred by Franz Maier. 

In the 4-year old riding horse class, Ulrike Prunthaler steered Edda and Wenzel Schmidt's Bartlgut's Furstenberg to victory. Bred by Herbert Stanek, Furstenberg is by Franziskus x and scored 8.74 points for the victory. Hildegard Seidl and mare Latina (by Lord Leopold) became the reserve champion. Bred by Christine Seidl, she scored.8.36 points, particularly earning top points for her conformation. Barbara Bloderer and Skylight-G (by ?) finished with the bronze medal after receiving 8.5 for all three basic gaits. Their overall was 8.51 points.

In the Finals for 4 and 5-year old dressage horses, Prunthaler also won the title aboard Furstenberg after placing seventh in the warm up round. The stallion scored 9 for trot and canter, 7.4 for walk and 8 for submission. He totalled 8.38 for the gold medal. Furstenberg was the "Best 3-year old Riding Horse" in 2016 and now added the 2017 title to his list of achievements.  Vanessa Doblinger and the chestnut stallion Lingh's Liberty (by Lingh) were the reserve champions. Bred by Andreas Voglstätter, the chestnut scored 8.20 in total for second place. Renate Voglsang and Franz Maier's mare Jacarda M (by Zack) finished in bronze medal position with 8.08 points. 

In the 5 and 6-year old dressage horse divsion, the German born Geertje Hesse-Wadenspanner rode United Europ (by Uphill) to the title . The dark bay stallion, who is bred by Josef and Wolfgang Stürzlinger and owned by Magdalena Nagl, scored an overall of 8.56 for the gold. The stallion got 9 for trot. Ulrike Prunthaler and Cosima Hilscher's Jedermann (by Johnson x Riccione) finished second. with 8.06 points The horse is bred by Franz Maier. The champion of 2016, Flamini (by Furst Grandios) now finished in bronze medal position with 8.20 points. Bred and owned by Chritian Grossholzner, Flamini was presented by Stephanie Dearing.
