2016-2017 KNHS Junior-Young Riders Cup

Junior rider Daphne van Peperstraten and young rider Esmee Donkers became the winners of the Finals of the 2016-2017 KNHS Junior-Young Riders Cup held in Roosendaal, The Netherlands, on 1 July 2017. By hosting their national Cup finals equestrian Centre Den Goubergh, the venue for the 2017 European Junior-Young Riders Championships, gave Dutch youth riders renewed opportunity to gain more mileage and exposure in their show ring before the Euros in August.

In the junior riders' division Daphne van Peperstraten and her Dutch warmblood gelding Cupido (by United) were a league of their own after winning all qualifiers this winter and spring season. As hot favourites for the title and challenging 12 other riders, Van Peperstraten coasted to the overall victory after winning both rounds with 73.964% and 79.042%. Trained by Marlies van Baalen, Daphne averaged a winning score of 76.503%. Sem Stiemer and the Dutch warmblood gelding Waldemar (by Negro x Inspekteur) followed far in the distance with a 69.865% and 75.208% round. Trained by Marjan Dorresteijn, Stiemer averaged 72.537% for second pace. Junior level newcomer Annelote Felix and Amos de la Fazenda (by Flemmingh x Sandro Hit) made a strong climb on the ladder and finished third with an average of 69.222% after scoring 67.568% and 70.875%.

"He went so well today. I couldn't wish for a better horse than Cupido," said Daphne after winning the freestyle. "He always wants to work, has very nice gaits and is super nice to handle in the stable."

At young riders level Tineke Bartels' student Esmee Donkers made a strong move for power in a field of 14 combinations. Aboard her black Dutch warmblood mare Chaina (by Sir Donnerhall) she topped the board with 70.833% and 77.750% to finish first on an average of 74.292%. 2016 Dutch YR team member Jasmien de Koeyer and her Desperados' daughter Esperanza were second with an average of 72.750% after scoring 70.00% and winning round 2, the Kur with 75.500%. Thalia Rockx and Verdi de la Fazenda (by Floret As) landed third place with a 72.132% average. The pair scored 69.430% and 74.833%.

"The first test went well and was almost faultfree, but to my feeling it could have all been a bit sharper," said Donkers after winning the Finals. "Chaina has progressed much recently and I wanted to show that. She did this in the freestyle. I don't think it could have gone better for now. I'm very happy."
